Advisor Meeting:
Advisors will meet at 2:00 on conference day to discuss next year's site,
commendations and recommendations, other announcements of interest, etc.
Registration:
The school's advisor must register and attend to all conference
business. In the past we have had problems with delegations arriving
without a faculty representative.
Delegate Placement:
As best as possible, place delegates in committees of interest to them, trying
to fill every committee for each delegation you receive. We prefer that
delegates not pair, but debate singly. It is only a one day
conference, after all, and it's a great place to learn some basics of the
process, not a place to get overshadowed by a partner.
Do be conscious of "key delegation" positions with certain topics
(in bold on Countries page).
While you may place a new delegate in Security Council or other special
committee, please be aware that
these committees will be a bit more high-powered, mostly composed of experienced
delegates.
Materials:
SEMMUNA will provide some paper, pen, a folder, and placards for all delegates.
Delegates may wish to bring: a copy of the background paper, any research
they did, extra paper or stationery, and other information to help them with the
debate.
Dress Code:
As with all Model UN conferences, Western business attire is the order of the
day. Costumes and other paraphernalia related to the represented country
are strongly discouraged as it is potentially offensive.
Awards:
It is the policy of SEMMUNA that awards not be given. The focus of the
conference is on learning and the spirit of the UN in cooperation.
Lunch:
This is provided by SEMMUNA (part of registration fee). Please discourage
delegates from leaving the building to find lunch in town. Our committee
time is short enough!
